Now, it’s Naples’ turn to host a Resort Symposium put on by the National Association of Realtors, the “voice of real estate” with more than 1.3 million members. The event has brought hundreds of Realtors here for education and networking this week. It’s geared toward Realtors who specialize in resort, vacation and second-home markets, such as Naples. Realtors are here from 31 states and three countries. The symposium, called “Sunshine Connection,” is being held at the Naples Grande Resort and Club off Seagate Drive. Vacation and investment home sales have been on the decline in a tough economy.

The Collier County Commission launched a plan this week to become house flippers. Accepting a $7.3 million U.S. Housing and Urban Development grant, the county will be able to buy up foreclosed homes, refurbish them and sell them to qualified homebuyers while keeping any proceeds in the county. “It’s going to be injecting much needed stimulus money into our county budget … (and) our local economy by employing local tradesmen to rehab and do property maintenance,” Marcy Krumbine, director of housing and human services, told the board.
