The Collier County Commission launched a plan this week to become house flippers. Accepting a $7.3 million U.S. Housing and Urban Development grant, the county will be able to buy up foreclosed homes, refurbish them and sell them to qualified homebuyers while keeping any proceeds in the county. “It’s going to be injecting much needed stimulus money into our county budget … (and) our local economy by employing local tradesmen to rehab and do property maintenance,” Marcy Krumbine, director of housing and human services, told the board.
